Statistics through 1995, 200 New Biographies,
Dynamic Sorting on Reports, Historical Stat-Gaps Filled
New Canaan, CT -- May 29, 1996 -- Baseball software publishers, Miller Associates, announced the 1996 Bill James Baseball Encyclopedia, the new edition of the only complete baseball data base available to fans. Now fans can study the complete career record for every major league player from 1876 through 1995, read scouting reports on the most recent players, and profit from functional upgrades and other improvements suggested by fans.
The 1996 Edition is a significant upgrade in statistical completeness and accuracy. Along with the newest major league season statistics, STATS, Inc. labored to fill in and verify gaps in the historical defensive statistics, including virtually every game played by every player, and corrected inaccuracies in the 19th century data. All 1995 awards available at the time of publication are in the new edition.
For fans who need expert opinions on players, sports journalist Bob Cunningham has contributed over 200 biographies of modern players, including 100 rookie scouting reports, and updated other bios and franchise histories.
The Encyclopedia is known for its unique SmartChartsTM and used for research and scouting analysis by professional baseball statisticians, player agents, and scouts. To assist this analysis, the 1996 Edition now has dynamic sorting of on-screen reports. Dynamic sorting allows a user to sort a report on any statistic displayed, so when a report is run, the user is not limited to one fixed report. With dynamic sorting the user is running as many reports as there are ways to sort it. The 1996 Bill James Encyclopedia is the only sports encyclopedia with dynamic sorting or user-controlled charting.
Bill James Encyclopedia is a set of powerful analytical and charting tools spiced with fun baseball history. "With the new version of the Encyclopedia your sense of discovery is engaged more than ever," said Kenneth Miller, president of Miller Associates, "You are limited only by the interesting questions you can pose."
With complete 1995 statistics and new biographies, dynamic sorting, and many minor improvements, the Bill James Encyclopedia remains the most useful tool available for baseball stat analysis. For both the dedicated and the casual fan, the Encyclopedia is intended as an exploration that answers all the stat questions, displays the trends and aberrations, and surprises with hard-to-believe facts.
Miller Associates has developed a "Fantasy Link" between the Encyclopedia and the game, APBA Baseball for Windows, which imports any player or team in history from the Encyclopedia. Any player from any year can take the field in the game. The Fantasy Link is part of Baseball for Windows 3.0.
The Encyclopedia ships with Prodigy software and 10 free hours of online time. SETUP allows a complete install to the hard drive (75MB) or partial install to run off of the CD (5MB).
The 1996 Bill James Encyclopedia upgrade costs $29.95 (for registered owners of the Windows Encyclopedia only). The full new Windows edition costs $35. Both come on CD-ROM only. It is available directly from the publisher only (call 1-888 OUTFIELD).
