Dear Fan:

It's a new season. You're the manager. The field is buzzing with veteran upgrades, "rookie" releases, and professional tools that make Baseball for Windows managers richer than ever. As you add these 6 new baseball "starters" to your lineup, remember that this is a good time to become a Miller Member—when the savings are greatest. So read the new product scouting reports below, then call us to get your team together.

Broadcast Blast Upgrade adds 1500 Sounds of Spring

Every year is a workout at Miller Associates because fans want Ernie Harwell to announce new players in the game. This year Miller Members submitted their own favorite player and team names for Ernie to announce—more than one thousand of them!

"There were some really unusual names," said Ernie, "The biggest challenge was getting the pronunciation right." Fans provided the phonetic spelling. We checked the historical names with baseball researchers and linguists. Then Ernie, with the most durable voice in broadcasting, set down over 1500 new names, completing all big league players, plus fan favorites, more Negro League stars, and hundreds of team nicknames.

So if you want to name your team the Asteroids, Bobby Sox, Cobras, Hounddogs, or Storm, or put them in Ash Fork, Black Water, Rocky Mountain, Cooperstown or hundreds of other classic baseball towns. Or if you want to field Alphonso, Cuomo, Eggleston, Giamatti, Hipp, or a load of other first names and last, draft Harwell's 1997 Upgrade and you'll have them in Ernie's Hall-of-Fame tones each time you boot up the game.

That's a bundle. In fact, it is, because every copy of Harwell's 1997 Upgrade is bundled on a CD with Advanced Draft 3.5, the skillful new upgrade described below. The price is $27 (members save $2.70). The sounds of spring are soooo sweet.

If you're just jumping to the full-broadcast CD version of the game, take advantage of the GAME BUNDLE good through May 15. You get the game and the upgrade with the new Draft for only $46. The GAME BUNDLE saves you more than $20 if you're a Member.

How Deep is your Draft? Why settle for a triple threat?

You know how much a triple threat—power, speed, defense—can mean to your team. Well, the new Advanced Draft 3.5 is a quadruple threat—strengthened with 20 new skills in four areas!

POWER...Creates easy to manage farm teams. Your farm teams or roster overflows are now connected automatically to their big league franchises. With a click, you can create a new Farm Organization or connect two existing organizations. Draft 3.5 displays the teams on one screen so you can quickly move players up and down. The parent team Status Report shows farm players in a helpful new section. Also, Draft 3.5 is intelligent about where a game is played, so you can play fun games between the farm teams without messing up big league status.

SPEED...it's quicker to find players you want. Every time you set up a league, draft a team, or play out a season, you save time with the new Player List. You can sort by Total Average, Home Runs, Games Started, Walks per 9 Innings, or Team, which displays a team sorted for quick viewing like the roster screen. With AIM, the Player List now displays status so you know the health of the player you're drafting. Also, it's handy to print the Player List, now with each player's farm and big league affiliations.

DEFENSE...Encyclopedia import covers more ground. Bring in an entire organization or league at once—teams and all! On import, Draft now will create the new organization with its leagues, divisions, and teams. This saves lots of setup time. And there's more. You can import "missing players only" to a team roster. This allows you to pick up quickly the part-time players for teams that were only carrying the regulars. Also, on import, injury and outfield ratings have been tweaked to be more realistic.

FOURTH DIMENSION...Intelligence. Every time you play a game, draft a team, make a roster move, or set up a lineup, you spend time in the Roster window. The new, smarter Roster window shows outfielders' arms and pitchers' home run rating and games started, so when you want to make a move, you'll know who's strong.

With AIM, the Roster window shows status for every player, the Roster Report shows Injury Rating and status, and the Status Report shows pitcher's Recovery Factor, so you'll know when each pitcher will be ready to go.

Twenty new skills. A quadruple threat. Advanced Draft 3.5 is available on 3.5" disk for $20 (member price is $18) or bundled with Harwell's 1997 Upgrade on CD-ROM (see above).

www.FanPark.com reports early..."For the fans, By the Fans"

As a fan of Baseball for Windows, it's time you had a place to call home. So we're opening FanPark on the Net, a private club for fans of the game. We're sending you this early notice so that you can be the first to visit and give us your feedback. Drop by on (or after) May 28th, the night we turn on the lights at FanPark.

Tale of Two City Ballparks

Cleveland's new sun-drenched ballpark features a big scoreboard in left against the near-by downtown skyline, the three-tiered right field stands, and a carefully groomed green-on-green striped outfield. It'll put you right in today's game.

Back in the 1970s, New York renovated the famous "house" in the Bronx. Many of us pine for the days when the community was clearly in view, when centerfield was cavernous, and the roof facade reminded you of the great homer that came within 4 feet of leaving the stadium. Now you can play there, in Jurinko's New York Bronx (1923 to 1973). By the way, do you know who hit the only home run to leave this park? Read on for the answer.

Both new ballparks come with day and night versions. They're $15 each and can be combined with any other ballpark in a three-pack for $36 (you save $9, or more if you're a member).

Walk-On FanManagers Have Distinctive Styles

Four savvy new microskippers, all developed by fans in our "Young Genius" program, take the field in three different time periods:

Gene Collins (by Steven Galbraith) is a non-DH, AIM manager designed for contemporary teams (1985-present).Collins' relief strategies center on getting to the supercloser. He likes platoon advantage and the double switch, but eschews one-run strategies. He'll rest benched stars and pull starters quickly in a safe game. If you're playing today's teams solo or doing full- season replays, Gene Collins is a disciplined new skipper.

Davey Kennedy (by Steven Galbraith) is a DH-only AIM manager suited for modern replays (1985-present). He manages pitchers like Collins above, with a quick hook, platoon moves, and setup for the supercloser. Offensively, he stays with his starting nine. Defensively, he subs and shifts when ahead, and favors subbing "itchy" players. Kennedy is competitive for today's DH play.

Cookie Lopez (by Steven Galbraith) is an AIM manager in the style of the 1940s. His starters often pitch long into games and will occasionally be used in relief. Lopez bases his relief strategy primarily on "looking" into a bullpen's actual relief appearances. He rests benched stars but subs freely to save the bullpen in a lopsided game. He stays with his starting eight. For World War II and early postwar teams, sign up Lopez.

Rabbit "The Old Codger" Schindel (by Bill Staffa) is a dead-ball era manager (1908-1919) in the style of e-coach Jake Conley. He differs from cousin Jake primarily in base stealing and bunting, which he likes. Lacking stats, he relies on intuition and "gut feel" to make his decisions. He plays to win. Rabbit has never heard of the DH or double switch. He's a competitive manager in the early-era running game style. After five upgrades in testing, he's "itchy" and ready to challenge your skills.

Fan months have gone into the development of these managers and we're pleased to offer them all on FanManagers Vol. 4.

Shhhh!...The Winners Don't Want You to Know

GUARANTEED TO IMPROVE YOUR TEAM'S PERFORMANCE OR YOUR MONEY BACK!

At Miller Associates we avoid endorsing specific play-to-win methods for our game, because most of them don't work.

But now we're taking a chance. We have reviewed BASE Creations team and draft management system by Mike Hunnersen, and it's the best material we have seen to help build a winning team in Baseball for Windows. Here's what fans of BASE Creations say:

"BASE Creations has helped me field a consistently superior team...I would highly recommend their products." — B. G., President, Scientific Search Inc., NJ

"Four straight seconds. This year I came across BASE Creations' in-depth material...My team finished in first place overall with 105 wins!" — D. W., TX

"Managers in my league are biting at the bit to know the source of my scouting information since I have become a very good drafter. One even directly asked me if I used products from BASE Creations — I denied it of course...I have made trades for key players and won a division and a wild card spot. I have improved my management skills by learning from BASE" — W.R.A. (Wishes to Remain Anonymous)

See the order Form for a description of what's included in the BASE Creations Team Management System. Then get the best players in your draft, evaluate trade offers instantly, and turn your team into an efficient and highly tuned winner!

Jump Up Off the Bench and Into the Race

Here's the fine print. If you buy BASE Creations Team Management System now, we'll give you a money-back guarantee. At any time during calendar 1997, if your team hasn't improved using this system, you can return it to Miller Associates for a full refund of the product price, no questions asked. That's fine print, isn't it? Normally this package costs $82. We asked Mike Hunnerson to create a special reduced price for BBW fans and he did. So we can offer this custom Baseball for Windows version at $55 (you save $27). The Member's price is $49.50 (save $32.50).

Still wonder who hit the only home run out of the old ballpark in the Bronx? Why, Hall-of-Famer Josh Gibson is said to have done it in an exhibition game. Innn-credible! Now, you can give him a start there, with that park, with 6 other new "starters," and 10 Winter Ball releases. You can really get your team together. Whether you are replaying or league playing, enjoy the new sounds of spring.

All best wishes,

MILLER ASSOCIATES
